FTS-20 Linear Cutting Module For Precision Lathe
The Kinetic Ceramics FTS-20 linear cutting module for precision lathes utilizes high authority piezoelectric actuation to produce precision motion of a lightweight single crystal diamond cutting tool. This precision module can produce repetitive or random features at a rate of up to 20,000 features per second in a variety of materials.

System Description
To control the temperature of the high performance piezoelectric actuator driving elements, the actuator is mounted inside a sealed housing containing cooling fluid. The tool holder is integral with a flexure that has very high rigidity in the vertical axis and horizontal axis. Axial motion of the cutting tool is unrestricted by the flexure. A Tool Carrier mounts in the Tool Holder. The Tool Carrier facilitates mounting a single crystal diamond cutting tool.
A power amplifier drives the piezoelectric actuator. A synthesized drive signal must be provided to the amplifier utilizing externally generated signals representing the desired feature geometry. The allowable feature replication rate is 2.0 kHz to 20.0 kHz.
